on tour this past fall with triple creme and now on sarah dougher's new record label, san francisco ftm wordsmith katastrophe (aka rocco kayiatos) continues his reign as the king of queer hip-hop with his sophomore release. dubbed producer of the year by the out music awards and featured in the documentary pick up the mic: the (r)evolution of queer hip hop, he's also toured with sister spit's rambling road show and performed with his own spoken-word hip-hop collective the end of the world. on this new 17-trackdisc, he collaborates with many notable names in the queer hip-hop world, including cindy wonderful from scream club, quaketrap's shaggy manatee, romanteek's ruby valentine and deep dickollective's jb raps and juba kalamka. sometimes delivering like a controversy-era prince on t ("diamond rings"), a tranny peaches ("read me"), or a queer, politically radical eminem ("the life"), katastrophe mixes elements of rap, ghetto-tech, spoken word, electro and other beat-heavy subgenres for a danceable, deftly-worded delight that will have you thinking as well as getting down.
